Kickstart that healthy behaviour
You will have seen my video, if not check it out, and my other blog on the Jump Start your Business Workshop, so you know I am self-conscious.

Self Image is something that all of us have in varying degrees.

My self-consciousness has come from years of bullying at school – being told I was ugly in one way or another. I wore black for most of my life, and its only since I have come into my 40s that I have got less so self-conscious.

In my 20s I was a size 10 and 10 stone. I currently am a size 12-14 and weigh 13.5 stone. I love food and a wine or beer, but over Covid I put on ton of weight. I remember the phrase in 2020 - “you’ll come out of this, a drunk, a hunk or a chunk” – mine was the latter. It knocked my self confidence ten-fold, and I tried the 800 calories a day, doing YouTube exercise videos and nothing.

It was only signing up for a 26.2 mile walking challenge in October 2023, that kicked me into action. I was like "I need to get fit and lose weight". Something needed to happen and this spurred me on.

In January 2024, I joined the local gym and actually had the confidence to enter the gym on my own. That’s one step down! I got on the treadmill, bike, leg press and chest press and thought I was doing well. Well, I was still eating and drinking the same, so no weight came off. Plus I knew in my mid 40s with peri-menopause was just around the corner something had to change.

It wasn’t until my husband signed up to a Personal Trainer in June 2024, that I was like "right maybe I should too".
5 months later, I have lost nearly 2.5 stone (13kg ish) and feeling so much better in myself. I have cut down the drinking and eating so much healthier. I haven’t gone tee-total, or cut out bad treats as that’s not going to work for me, but I feel happier in myself, stronger and healthier. “Its all about the protein”, “watch those wines” – that’s words from my PT (check his details on my Connections page to find more about how he can help).
I think that’s what I am trying to say., it’s all about what makes you feel healthier, happier and stronger. So what’s stopping you go to the gym, lose that weight and eat healthier? It took me some time and an achievable goal to change my behaviours.
